As you may be aware, earlier this year the Government announced that through Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) Babergh District Council and Suffolk County Council would be abolished, in favour of three unitary councils for Suffolk. In the case of South Suffolk, my constituents would either fall under the new West Suffolk Council, or Ipswich & South Suffolk Council.
Yesterday, 7th September, the Secretary of State for Housing announced that the LGR programme would be reviewed, and the decision to reorganise local government in Suffolk has been withdrawn.
This has caused huge uncertainty about the future of our local councils, but ever since LGR was first announced, my top priority has always been to ensure that there is meaningful debate and that my constituents have their say. As such, please respond to my short survey below to let me know what you think should happen next.
