James Cartlidge MP

You will all be aware of the national measures announced by the Chancellor in the Budget on Wednesday 6th March: fuel duty frozen, increasing the child benefit threshold and cutting NICs by a further 2%.

But you probably won’t be aware of the significant investment into South Suffolk in recent weeks:

  • £250k received by Gainsborough’s House from the National Lottery Heritage Fund
  • £103k for Hadleigh Swimming Pool as part of the Government's sports strategy - 'Get Active'
  • £36k grant for the Royal Hospital School from Historic England to support their newly Grade II listed wall that surrounds their garden
  • £29k for the London Road HGV Parking Compound
  • £11k for Sporting Memories from the National Lottery Community Fund to continue their memory club and social trips

Not to mention the additional £107.5 million that has been ring-fenced for Suffolk as part of the Government’s Local Roads Resurfacing Funding, a new West Suffolk Hospital, and a brand new school building in Sudbury!

South Suffolk

As I expressed in my maiden speech, South Suffolk is quite simply a gem. Stretching from Shotley peninsula in the east to Clare in the west, the constituency is comprised of the beautiful market towns of Sudbury and Hadleigh, picturesque villages such as Lavenham, Long Melford and Cavendish, and spectacular rolling countryside.

I was absolutely thrilled that Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales, chose to visit Sudbury’s historic silk industry – as well as meeting pupils from St Gregory’s Primary School.
