James Cartlidge MP Sudbury

On Wednesday 11th November, James Cartlidge MP visited The Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company Ltd in their historic Sudbury mill.

Established in 1903 by Reginald Warner, Gainsborough is one of the oldest working commercial mills in England. Awarded the Royal Warrant in 1980, the company has produced fabrics for numerous Royal palaces and state buildings, and today continues the tradition of creating fabrics of enduring quality.

The South Suffolk MP was taken on a tour of the mill and discussed the firm’s plans for expansion. Talking about the visit James said “It was fantastic to be shown around the mill and hear about all of their prestigious history. I was delighted to discover that curtains hanging in the Houses of Parliament were created here in Sudbury, I will have to go and admire them when I return!”

He added that “Though their history is very impressive, I suspect that their future will be even brighter. They are about to embark on an export drive and I am sure that this will facilitate their successful expansion. I wish them the best of luck and will be watching their progress keenly”.
