James Cartlidge, Member of Parliament for South Suffolk, recently visited St Mary’s Church in Thorpe Morieux to discuss the ongoing banking issues that the church is facing. The churchwardens had reached out to their local MP for assistance, and Mr. Cartlidge is now in contact with the bank to help resolve the situation, which has been ongoing for some time.
During the visit, Cartlidge met with Churchwarden John Gagan and former Treasurer Gerald Morley to better understand their concerns and offered support in addressing the matter. Mr. Cartlidge has since raised the case with the bank in question, advocating for a fair and timely resolution for the church. While no resolution has yet been reached, the meeting was a step in the right direction, highlighting the value of direct dialogue between the local community and their elected representative. Mr. Cartlidge will continue to follow up with the bank and keep the community informed of any developments.
Mr. Cartlidge said: “It was great to visit St Mary’s Church in Thorpe Morieux, although it was disappointing to hear that they are having difficulties with their business banking. I was keen to see how we could work together to find a solution to this ongoing issue. Although Thorpe Morieux is a small village in South Suffolk, the church plays a big role in the community, and the issues that they are facing with their bank are far from ideal. I am committed to helping resolve this matter with the bank as quickly as possible so that the churchwardens can focus their time and efforts on supporting their local community."
