Ormiston Sudbury Academy is set to welcome 100 more pupils following a development in a rebuild project.

The Department for Education has confirmed pupil places at the Tudor Road site will increase from a previously-planned 950 to 1050.

It is thought that development plans for the new school building will be submitted to Babergh District Council this winter.

Caroline Wilson, principal at Ormiston Sudbury Academy who is retiring at the end of term, said: "We are delighted that more places will be available at Ormiston Sudbury Academy, ensuring more young people will have access to our high-quality provision.

"Our town is continuing to flourish, and we are delighted to play our part in its growth, equipping students with the skills that Sudbury will need for the future."

James Cartlidge, South Suffolk MP, said: "I strongly welcome this development as it shows real ambition from the school as it looks to the future.

"This is great news for Sudbury and local families who will form the pupil base in the years ahead."

When plans are submitted there will be opportunities for the school to consult on the designs for the build with parents, students, other schools, councils and stakeholders.
