There have been a number of complaints within Hadleigh over heavy goods vehicles entering the town via Benton Street, which is particularly narrow and suffers from heavy congestion, with lorries often having to drive up onto the kerb.
A number of constituents, along with Babergh District Councillor Kathryn Grandon, raised the issue with South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge.
Following a meeting with Highways England in June to discuss the over running engineering works of the A12, the matter was brought up, with Mr Cartlidge sending a letter requesting better signage.
Mr Cartlidge confirmed on Monday that Highways England plans to include the town on signage at junction 31, as well as installing a sign indicating the weight restriction through Hadleigh on the southbound carriageway.
Mr Cartlidge said the signs were currently being manufactured and should be in place by the end of the summer.
“Given the problems of lorries on Benton Street, I am delighted that a new sign on the A12 will emphasise the important weight restrictions, hopefully stopping lorries from taking that route,” said Mr Cartlidge.
“Residents of Benton Street have put up with one of the worst traffic issues in Suffolk for a long time and this is very positive news for them.'
Heavy goods vehicles are not the only issue for Benton Street residents who have set up a group to campaign for a solution to the road’s various traffic issues.
