James Cartlidge MP Mobile Campaign

Set up by South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, Mr Cartlidge said he was delighted by the incredibly positive response that he had received.

Specifically, the petition was for improved mobile signal for South Suffolk and was distributed across all of the parishes in the constituency.

“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support that constituents have given to the petition and wider campaign,” said Mr Cartlidge.

“The amount of signatures clearly demonstrates the importance of this matter to our communities and will add significant weight to my calls for a new phase of mobile infrastructure funding in Parliament.

“I owe lots of people a huge amount of thanks for all of their effort. Many residents and councillors have been out knocking on doors and it has been fantastic to see the petition available to sign in local shops such as Partridges in Hadleigh.

“I also know that lots of community groups have made it available to sign at their meetings.”

Mr Cartlidge presented the petition to Parliament last night.

A key issue to the South Suffolk MP, he has recently had meetings with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, appeared in a Commons debate on mobile infrastructure and will be having further meetings with mobile providers and the Minister responsible for mobile coverage, Ed Vaizey, later in March.

Mr Cartlidge added: “It is now in the hands of the Government and I am hopeful that we will see something in the Budget.

“But whatever the outcome, the petition clearly shows the desperate need for mobile signal improvements in our area, so even if we don’t get something from the Chancellor the signatures will be crucial to my ongoing campaign.”
