Hundreds of people took in the sights of Suffolk’s churches last weekend, as they combined their efforts for the county’s annual Ride and Stride charity event.

The fundraiser, organised by the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust, saw people join in sponsored walks and cycle rides across Sudbury, Long Melford, Great Cornard, Assington, Lavenham, Bures, Boxford, Nayland and Polstead, to raise money for the upkeep of these centuries-old buildings.

Among the participants was South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, who raised £560 for the cause, after visiting 22 churches on Saturday, September 14.

He said: “This is a brilliant initiative, and I am grateful, in particular, to everyone who sponsored me, but also to the volunteers who turned out, not just to raise money, but also to man the churches throughout the event.”
