A second grant of more than £100,000 has been awarded to a town’s leisure centre in the space of four months, to help improve the facility’s energy efficiency.

Hadleigh Pool and Leisure received an additional £103,500 from the Government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund, on top of a £115,000 grant, which was awarded in November.

The money will help fund the installation of pool covers and an upgrade from the fluorescent lighting to LED lighting, thereby reducing the running costs at the leisure centre in Stonehouse Road.

The extra funding was welcomed by South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, who said: “Hadleigh Pool and Leisure is a brilliant facility, allowing people of all ages and abilities to access the mental and physical benefits that come with exercise.

“That is why I am delighted that Hadleigh Swimming Pool has received an additional £103,500 of investm3ent from this government, on top of the £115,000 awarded in November, giving more people the opportunity to swim, while reducing our environmental impact.”

Alongside the Swimming Pool Support Fund announcement, the latest round of grants from the Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme was also confirmed by the Government.

Among those benefiting from this funding is Lavenham Recreation Ground, which received £1,000 to invest in new goalposts.
