An MP has called for outstanding wage bills owed to staff that worked at a 600-year-old pub to be paid after it closed last month.
South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, whose constituency covers Lavenham, has voiced his support to people that worked at The Angel Hotel in the village.
Last week it was revealed that the pub closed suddenly on Wednesday, February 12, with 24 members of staff owed more than £23,000 wages.
Staff members told this newspaper that wages had not been paid for the last two months before the doors to the building, in Market Hill, were shut.
It is believed senior staff had not received their wages in full or on time for the last six months.
Mr Cartlidge said: "I was very disappointed to hear reports that staff at The Angel have gone unpaid, and I would call on the employer to settle all outstanding wage bills as soon as possible.
"I would urge those affected to seek legal advice, or to at least approach their local Citizens Advice Bureau in the first instance.
"All those affected have my sympathy and I hope that this matter is resolved in a timely fashion."
Former employees of the pub are now seeking employment at other establishments.
One ex-staff member, who did not wish to be named, said: "This has taken a massive mental toll on me personally, having to decide who to pay as priority and trying to configure reasoning from a myriad of factors based on how much they work, their social and financial situation, age."
Money is owed to staff by SRPH Limited, which leases the building. Land registry documents show the premises is owned by Wellington Pub Company.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help those affected by the issue.
At the time of writing, more than £1,100 has been raised.
