Hadleigh banking hub remains on track for summer launch despite missing out on high street location

Hadleigh banking hub

The new banking hub for Hadleigh remains on track for this summer, despite being unable to secure a high street location.

Cash Access UK is planning to open a custom-built hub within the town, offering access to banking services.

The not-for-profit body announced the hub last year, after a review by LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, of how banking needs were being served in Hadleigh.

At the time, Cash Access UK stated it was searching for an appropriate location on the High Street to house the hub, with a targeted opening of July 2025.

However, with no suitable premises forthcoming, the organisation has instead opted for a permanent cabin, located at the Morrisons supermarket car park, in Calais Street.

This setting will, once up and running, open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

It will contain a counter run by the Post Office, where customers can carry out cash deposits and withdrawals, balance checks, bill payments, gas and electricity top-ups and change-giving services.

The location at Morrisons has drawn concerns in the community, with some residents worried it will not be accessible unless it is in the town centre.

But, South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge, who lobbied for the new banking hub, welcomed the solution found by Cash Access UK.

“I think their solution of a custom-built banking hub is incredibly positive and most importantly pragmatic,” he said.

"It will be accessible, people already go to Morrison’s to do their weekly shopping, it’s got free car parking – and, ultimately, the alternative is no access to banking services in the town.”

Mick Fraser, Suffolk county councillor for Hadleigh, said: “I am delighted to welcome the planned opening of the new banking hub.

“This is a positive step forward for our town and a clear recognition of the importance of accessible, in-person banking services for our community.”
